Interview with COMODO Interior & Furniture Design at Thursday 7th of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? AT: The apartment is located on the south-eastern coast of Lantau Island in Hong Kong, surrounded by mountains and the beautiful South China Sea. Its serenity views and slow pace of life has inspired the team the Five Elements Theory, a Chinese philosophy used to describe interactions and relationships between wood, fire, metal, earth, and water. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? AT: The main focus is to create a natural transition between these rich material palettes. The team gently blended the wooden veneer and metal trimming to lay down the foundation of Earth, Metal, and Wood element. The connection between corridor, wall panel, and cabinet door are tightened by the wooden veneer and grid line. A curated natural stone is used in the living room, master bedroom, study room, and bathroom to bring out a unique and vitality living ambient, and further highlight the Five Elements Theory. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? AT: We took about 2 months to finalize the design or decision on using Five Elements Theory as the project concept is quick, then the time remained are used for detail design and material sourcing.
