Interview with Maryam Heydarian at Saturday 2nd of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MH: For the design we have inspired from the letter “X”, as a sign of privacy Rivets as security from Roman Imperial helmets We have chosen Rose gold and gray colors for a classic and trendy look for everyone Also, LED light running around the USB, plays a main role in user’s experience improvement by changing colors in different stages. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MH: To show this product is secure and since everyone knows what is USB, this one should feel different and secure FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MH: To bring it to the real world and help people protecting their privacy. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MH: 5 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MH: Cause I have always loved to combine art and technology together and create something new. I inspired from helmets and the letter 'X' FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MH: no, work with my team FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MH: A great team and a practical device which anyone can use and be hap FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MH: The CEO of the company who had the idea of this project. Mr.Piri FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MH: all the people in the world who carry data weather personal or business data on a portable USB drive and care about their privacy. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MH: using a military grade security and being extremely user friendly FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MH: Clexi means lock in French. Since this is a secure USB , you can lock your data in this flash drive. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MH: Photoshop Adobe xd Illustration FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MH: Using materials in the design to be light, sustainable and compatible with the technology that the technical team wanted to apply in a small size. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MH: The technical team for understanding the concept of this product FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MH: Technology plays the main role in this design. Clexi the world's 1st smart flash drive. It uses the latest technology to keep whatever is inside safe and secure. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MH: Data breaches and the cyber security impact in our daily lives. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MH: Using the material in the design that works with the technology we wanted to use. Also we wanted to use steady and light materials. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MH: Since Clexi is a device that almost everyone needs to have one, International competition could help us grow our business faster and show our product to the world easier. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MH: I learned a lot about some technology rules, new light materials, some new design platforms and met so many great people.
