FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
WX: Originally my research into wild wool as a material was inspired by the project-connecting wool. I decided to rule out felting, commonly used in wool manufacturing processes of everyday goods, and focus on the intertwining properties of plain wool while employing various sewing techniques.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
WX: My experiments gave birth to thin and translucent wool-based material with distinct thread pattern, giving the impression of being both robust and ethereal.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
WX: I plan to continue my investigation into the methods of expressing the delicacy and fineness of the natural aspect of wild wool and explore the ways the beauty of nature can be interwoven into our everyday life.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
WX: Three months.
FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
WX: It's not being produced, I want to sell or lease the production rights, or produce my work myself in the future.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
WX: I want to use natural material to create something new.
FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
WX: My professor guided me.
FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
WX: I think no one should have seen this kind of "transparent" wool.
FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
WX: When I try to use wool to make something, it gave me the tenderness feeling that different with other materials during the process.
FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
WX: Sewing machine.
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
WX: Because I find a new way to explain wool, it will have big potential.
FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
WX: No.
FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
WX: I went to Norway, close contacted with sheep and did research in wool factories. The flock in Norway' natural environment, gave me inspiration.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
WX: Because I got the email from A' Design Award.
