Interview with Ling Dai at Sunday 5th of May 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
LD: Design philosophy: to be true to ourselves, to change the way we are good at hiding and camouflage.Just like our common gemstones are cut into standard-shaped facets, humans have to undergo cosmetic surgery to get praise from others. This design puts forward the concept of I'M. The design uses uncut gemstones to reduce the wear and tear of gemstone materials. At the same time, it puts forward the attitude of being true to oneself and respecting nature.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
LD: Focus on how to show the natural beauty of uncut gemstones,At the same time, the introduction of "I'M what I'M" is expressed through jewelry.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
LD: This is a design suitable for commercial promotion. I hope to get more people's favor and develop this design series.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
LD: 2 months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
LD: pursue inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
LD: manufactured and used by other companies.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
LD: Independent women aged 20-40

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
LD: At the beginning of the design, I thought of combining the shape of pencil emerald with the general introduction of "I'M". At the same time, I wanted to put forward the idea of being brave and true to my life, learn to admit my imperfection and embrace my imperfection.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
LD: Using uncut emerald primitive, combined with metal mosaic technology and 3D scanning technology.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
LD: Because each stone has not been cut, its shape and size are different, so many details should be adjusted according to the natural shape and metal part of the stone.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
