Interview with Giorgio Canale at Wednesday 15th of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? GC: The bar is constructed to serve as a bar and seating structure. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? GC: To amplify the simplicity of utilizing natural materials to create a modern structure. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? GC: To figure out how to format this bar to be constructed with various materials. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? GC: about 5 months to realize, considering that we needed to find the right materials and fabricator. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? GC: It was designed as an installation during a marble trade show. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? GC: Not at the moment. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? GC: Our designers tend to utilize natural materials in all of our designs and this was birthed as an installation and also functional. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? GC: No FS: Who is the target customer for his design? GC: It was designed to appeal and utilize by everyone. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? GC: It is unique in a sense that in one angle it looks like a solid block but when facing the structure it disappears into the space. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? GC: We wanted to emphasize on the natural materials and use of lines - which are both basic elements in nature. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? GC: Auto Cad and Renderings. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? GC: The construction of the bar. it looks very simple, but in reality it was very complex to realize. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? GC: Just the BiancoBianco Team. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? GC: Technology helped to realize the project, without it, the internal structures would not be possible to hold and fully maintain the structure in tact. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? GC: The essence of our collection is inspired by retro, art deco, with a modern twist. This is the design we wanted to implement into the design. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? GC: we needed to construct this project in a short time frame. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? GC: I have been a fan of this award show, and finally had a design that I believe can stand to be worthy amongst other beautifully crafted designs or products. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? GC: The design team had to simplify and think of how to make a simple design with aesthetic and function. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? GC: We are a fan of natural materials and design, this is how we approach every new project that are presented to us.
