Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Wei Peng (WP) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Wei Peng by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design StarSharing Blue and White here.

Interview with Wei Peng at Friday 10th of May 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
WP: Extreme simplicity by combining the beauty of blue and white porcelain. Create vision of brand of a Chinese style vitamin, become the main principle of this design.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
WP: The main concern is to highlight the beauty of porcelain, and display the blue and white porcelain hidden in the museum to consumers. What I want to achieve most is to make this product unique and break people's inherent packaging ideas.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
WP: The next step is to continue the Chinese design, so that more people feel the Chinese culture.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
WP: The idea was considered for three months before it was launched. Think repeatedly, find the simplest design technique thereby.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
WP: Design a Chinese style nutrition and health care product packaging, the best-selling on the market is marketing copy packaging, hope to stand out. This design is in pursuit of inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
WP: I plan to sell the design or lease the production rights.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
WP: Want to be different.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
WP: The museum is my teacher

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
WP: The pursuit of creativity, overthrow the inherent design. To stand out from the customers.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
WP: Low cost, simple process, unique vision

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
WP: From the name of Chinese porcelain

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
WP: PS and Solidworkds

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
WP: The pursuit and transmission of Chinese culture

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
WP: Myself

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
WP: The greatest difficulty is oneself. As the chief designer in the studio for many years, there will be confusion in thinking. The creation of art lies in the attachment point of inspiration. Only by combining some traditional Chinese structure and craft, or by blending health care products with perfume and luxury products, can a good design be achieved.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
WP: Bring out the best design. The studio serves more than 40 packaging schemes every year, from which it seeks the most artistically expressive packaging, leaving only a few projects for the competition. And all I did was take my favorite packaging and compete in the most influential competition in the world.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
WP: Learn to refrain from communicating with customers. Good design ideas will conflict with commercial communication. As a designer, we should first solve this problem. I think designers need to keep communicating with customers, understand the core value of the brand, and help create brand influence.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
