Interview with Annamaria Mikulik at Monday 1st of July 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? AM: I wanted to convey the message about the beauties and how we forget the world around us, surrounding ourselves by things that are not important. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? AM: I wanted to create the beauty of flowers in jewelry, but at the same time I wanted to point out that even if we try to emulate nature, we will never succeed. Because nature is perfection. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? AM: I will develop this collection and try to transform this concept into a commercial jewelry line. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? AM: This concept I carry in my mind for quite some time. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? AM: Today, environmental issues are one of the most important. I love to be surrounded by beautiful objects and nature, which is of course, the most perfect. We will never succeed in replacing it. It is more important to maintain its beauty in its natural form. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? AM: I will also try to offer this jewelry line through the NATIF minimalist jewelry brand I have set up. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? AM: Seeing environmental problems. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? AM: I work with an exceptional team of people who help me with their professions to support and present my designs concepts. Starting with a photographer, ending with a writer. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? AM: The women who love jewelry but are aware of the importance of surpluses around us. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? AM: Visual that underlines the concept. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? AM: The name of this collection expresses the concept of false illusions that we believe in, but are not true in our everyday lives. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? AM: Mostly my imagination. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? AM: The message it conveys. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? AM: No. I designed and implemented it myself. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? AM: I worked with modern ubiquitous material - plastic. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? AM: No. I think environmental issues are also visible without data and analysis. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? AM: Irregular shapes that had to be cast with precision. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? AM: I was intrigued by the response this design has in the international media. I see that I am not alone in the question of preserving natural beauty. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? AM: It was chalenging type of work. I had to create very complex casting molds and invent a special jewelery finish resembling the velvet surface of flower petals. This project taught me to work more closely with colleagues from other industries. I have also improved myself in presenting my ideas to the wider public. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? AM: I would be pleased if more design products could be used more consciously.
