Interview with Luo Dan - DDA at Thursday 13th of June 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? LD: Design inspiration came from the nature and local culture,which is the harmony between man and nature.The river nurtured generations of the local people same as the fish cannot leave the water.The fish,in Chinese culture,symbolizes prosperity and good luck.The river elements and the Canal Town culture were extanded into the whole interior design. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? LD: My main focus is on how to find the balance between the design renderings and the technical difficulties. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? LD: I want to make more good design. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? LD: It took around one month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? LD: Because of its culture and environment. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? LD: I produced my own design. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? LD: It’s the difficulties and the unique look. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? LD: My team helped me a lot on this project. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? LD: Tourists and investors. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? LD: Chinese culture meets western style. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? LD: CAD,photoshop,3D MAX,BIM FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? LD: Its magnificent lobby and the wind-power system design. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? LD: My team.They are specialized in technical skills. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? LD: It’s very important and helpful and time-saving sometimes. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? LD: I did a marketing data research before my design. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? LD: How to balance between the complicated building structure and the design. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? LD: It’s a good way to spread my own design brand. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? LD: No matter how long it takes,the design work need to continue,even on the very small details,communication is very import during the process.Listening to others’ opinions and teamwork helped me a lot to improve my design. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? LD: No,thanks.
