SY: At a fingertip convenient, where's the idea focus on fun, innovative and neat. It's all begins with hobby into cycling eventually became a vintage bike collector especially folding bike. I was inspire and mesmerized with the historical value, folding invention evolution, the design process and implementation in result creating awareness and influence the society mobility landscape. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SY: To design a bicycle for better tomorrow. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? SY: I can imagine, it would be perfect to see her on the road. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SY: Two plus years. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SY: It was very much a personal hobby inspired creation; an alternative mobility experience. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? SY: Never. I do have plan to lease the production rights should all materialise. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? SY: As a profession I was an Interior Designer, I must confess it was first hobby turned passion having the knowledge and skill I have developed, enable positive process of thinking and encourage this design come to live. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? SY: Precisely, there are many past and present good design globally being the bridge for my learning curve and inspiration. Namely, Gladiator military folding bike 1896, Andrew Ritchie Brompton, ingenious design 1976. couplings design, and Monkii mounting mechanism for accessories and FUBi fixie bike with large triangle frame may have influenced later large-wheeled folding, since then FIN evolved with a quite unusual bicycle designs in small-wheel and package. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SY: This is a bicycle designed for all ages and lifestyle. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? SY: Design appearance, conveniences and the fold. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SY: The name for this design derived from my name swo FIN ty, FIN. It's represent the movement and balance, graphically outlined the FIN form profile too when folded. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? SY: Both manual hand sketches and Vectorworks CAD design software. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? SY: Withstand the test of time. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? SY: Yes, it’s important especially throughout the design process of experimenting with various methods of doing something until one finds the most successful, from rough model, test frame and prototype. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? SY: Mobility advancement. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? SY: I have done research based on actual various existing folding bike design, riding comfort, purpose and target market, function and aesthetic. With the understanding I have design this new method of folding without compromising commuter necessity and the ride similar to a full size bike reflecting one purpose, functionality. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? SY: Limited timeframe and resources. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? SY: I believe I’m ready. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? SY: Determination and to do things consistent with what one claims. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? SY: No.
