Interview with Kenmura Jeng at Tuesday 21st of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KJ: We expect our users to enjoy life in different ways through our design. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KJ: The goal is to introduce fresh and surprising perspectives, experience, and alternative options for users. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KJ: We will develop the market and share the product with more people. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KJ: It took me over 2 year. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KJ: This concept is my personal needs, because I was unable to use the pepper grinder when I was injured, so I I thought that a handshake can be a good way. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KJ: This design will be sold in mass production, and will continue to improve. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? KJ: I think Is action, different actions lead to different ways of using. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KJ: Our team will join the discussion with our own experience, which can help the product to be better and more complete. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? KJ: People who like different experiences, appreciate Design, and are willing to pay for design. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? KJ: I think it is easier to use. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KJ: The main idea of this product is to shake back and forth naturally. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? KJ: 3D software, 3D printing, CNC etc. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KJ: The "Shuttle" is a new movement structure, that completely different way of using. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? KJ: We work with a mechanical engineer to calculate mechanics related parameters. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? KJ: Improve performance. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? KJ: We must consider the experiments related variables: movement stroke, the tool angle, the movement of the weight, filling space. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? KJ: I think it is performance and manufacturing cost. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KJ: When our product quality is stable and can be mass produced. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? KJ: If the concept is ok, but the results are not ideal, maybe you should try different ways. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? KJ: No, thanks
