Interview with Ho Kuan Teck at Sunday 21st of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KH: The inspiration and design of this handbag is an amalgamation of a shape and symbol, the design seeks to reflect modern and luxurious lifestyle in a simple and direct manner of Balance. Thereby, this bag is epitomizes the minimalist fashion with no fanciful metal accessories. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KH: The main focus for this design is to blend the shape and infinity symbol to become a handbag, yet not spoil the proportion of handbag. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KH: I will keep pushing this award winning design order. Will also try to find local media for featuring it. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KH: I was spend about 1.5 month for design this particular concept. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KH: This design is to unlock my creativity and I was challenge myself in designing a very different shape of bag that didn't seen in market. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KH: I have start produce the handbag, I intend to produce it myself. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? KH: Recent year, handbag design is too much useless metal elements is added and I felt it was destroy the principle of design. I decide to brief myself to design this particular work. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KH: No, the design is done by me alone. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? KH: Female is the target customer. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? KH: The overall shape of this handbag and the handle design is set apart from other. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KH: The name of handbag was "Lemniscate", which is also infinity symbo, it's a mathematical symbol representing the concept of infinity. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KH: the most unique aspect of this handbag was a twist handle, this was a very unique part and need some tricks to penetrate when produce the final product. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? KH: the handbag design is done it by myself with no help from others. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? KH: The role of technology is quite important, especially when we develop the prototype with 3d software. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? KH: The design is not much influenced by data or analytical research. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? KH: The challenges during designing is to blend a triangle shape and infinity symbol. When I doing prototyping, handle part is another challenge. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KH: I have submit my design to an international design competition every year, I use the competition as a tools to evaluate my design. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? KH: I have learn how to manage the research development well than previous when I was designing this work, and also learn more in test or prototyping. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? KH: No, overall is covered.
