Interview with Jianwu Zhang&Tingbo Cai at Friday 27th of April 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? JZ: Because it is a commercial space project, the main principle is to meet the basic needs of customers, and combine the inspiration of hair to create a young brand shop with strong brand recognition. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? JZ: Focusing primarily on cost and spatial visual effects, we use the limited cost to achieve the best visual effects and maximize the value of design creation. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? JZ: The award for this design is a great encouragement to us. After all, it is a low-cost project. In the future, this type of commercial space will be systematically analyzed and summarized. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? JZ: This time is relatively compact, probably took a one-month design cycle. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? JZ: In the face of cost, we designed this concept in order to let more people know that design can create value. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? JZ: The most unique place is definitely the design of the staircase's installation art. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? JZ: The biggest challenge is the cost. Due to the cost constraints, the use of many materials is continually overturned and verified. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? JZ: We feel that low cost can better embody the concept of designing value creation. All the participating design works should not be built entirely out of money. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? JZ: In this process, we learned to adhere to and compromise, meaning that we adhere to our design philosophy, compromise the customer's cost and ultimately realize it.
