Interview with Sarp Yachts at Monday 9th of April 2018

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SY: The timeless design, this is modern without became futuristic. The style is quite sporty but still elegant, the classic bow profile and the balanced proportions are gentle for the best part of the potential owners.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SY: The balance between the design and the visible features. The function becomes style, every aspect is well integrated.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SY: Winning another one!

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
SY: I work on several concepts in the meantime, it is impossible to say.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
SY: The brief was a good design for a 2020 classic motor yacht. The concept must offer the most requested features.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
SY: The design was been committed from the shipyard, this is a one-off project. Some part of the work came from the shipyard's engineers; this is a proper four hands work.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
SY: Nothing in particular, the procedure is similar for any concept.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
SY: Usually I find my design inspiration out from the yachting industry, then I just follow the rules of the market and I try to combine it.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
SY: There is not a specific target, the design and the layout are been created for receiving a sample appreciation from the market.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
SY: There is not a specific detail, the whole concept was been created following the design feeling I created for Sarp yacht.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
SY: Nacre is the precious mother of pearl of the oyster. The naming is from Sarp Yachts.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
SY: The same I use for every project, from the white paper to the 3d software.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
SY: I found my inspiration from the car design, from the architecture, the nature, the art and even from the music. I like the beautiful things, and I try to play with this feeling in my design.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
SY: I have a selected team in Hot Lab, I do the exterior design by myself and then I leave the guys free to develop the concept in detail. In this specific step I just follow the works with them.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
SY: The same of every custom yacht building.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
SY: As I told I found my inspiration from the car design, from the architecture, the nature, the art and even from the music. I like the beautiful things, and I try to play with this feeling in my design.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
SY: The balance between the design and the visible features. The function becomes style, every aspect is well integrated.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
SY: This is a decision from the commitment.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
SY: I don't know in detail, but for sure there is always a lot to learn!

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
SY: No, thank you.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
