Interview with Li Liu at Thursday 13th of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
LL: During the process,we try utmost to shun extra design incentive, starting everything from people who live in the space, taking consideration of their expectation in behavior and mind.To ensure that the minimum color, style, material are based on solving the function and atmosphere demand, the most meticulous care, to restore a visual and simple powerful and humanistic living space.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
LL: Just like an empty container, it, just relying on pureness and blank, forms the ultimate freedom to hold thoughts of all. Abundant materials and advertisements seen everywhere have tied all people to the commerce, as a result, we are confused of the true life. As far as the showroom, the program acts in an opposite way, instead of daily encumbrance, and returns to the nature just as it should be.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
LL: On the basis of this project, I wish it continuously inspires me more and to produce better works for society as a whole.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
LL: Nature, simplicity are always my design concept.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
LL: Abundant materials and advertisements seen everywhere have tied all people to the commerce, as a result, we are confused of the true life. As far as the showroom, the program acts in an opposite way, instead of daily encumbrance, and returns to the nature just as it should be.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
LL: No.This is the first time that I show this work.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
LL: Just like an empty container, it, just relying on pureness and blank, forms the ultimate freedom to hold thoughts of all.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
LL: Frankly, design inspiration originates from illumination of nature.Currently, the accelerating pace of life makes city naturally cuts off from nature and high-skyscrapers.What I intend to do is to highlight space atmosphere through natural elements, trying to evoke human's yearning and demand for nature.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
LL: It is a dreamy place for those who are restricted to the rapid urban life rhythm.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
LL: With all motives for design restricted, all, done on the basis of daily life, aim to explore the basic behaviors and psychological needs and care as designed; materials and colors are simplified to the minimum, a natural oak color is applied in a whiteness, compatible and physical, and the white pureness showing lightness is full of pure and simplified Zen Zen wisdoms.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
LL: It is said in the Book of Tao and Teh written by Lao Tzu that a real house shall be designed with doors and windows excavated in walls.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
LL: Manual drawing, sketch-up and computer

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
LL: A pure natural color system is used to define that of the display, it is not centered on a hit but just a transfer of living attitude and a turn to the daily life.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
LL: Li Liu,as the key designer, mainly orients and controls the whole project direction and space atmosphere,as well as function analysis of design details, the supervision of product selection and color display. While, Yan Zhang who is the space design assistant, is responsible for the sketch refinement, scrutiny and controlling and drawing of construction ladder. For display assistant Zhen Tang, whose job is to display the production and procurement of all list product.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
LL: Technology is just a dip on this project, what matters is easiness, and people's yearning for nature.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
LL: Yes,designer is rational,we should firstly meet the demand and take consideration of human's behavior and mind, making sure the landing and achievement of function and details in the space. I surveyed and talked with people around me and my compamy, collecting the ideal house factors in their mind.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
LL: The cooperation between stuff providers and constructors should be more smoothly and effectively in later work completion.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
LL: I prepare the design sketch, feedback from visitors ,video and professional photos, editing, modifying each of them.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
LL: What really needs to be improved is the realization between the design and real construction, for some of what we are intend to express is unable to be fulfilled, then the further change possibly makes the real project less perfect as what we imagined before. What's more, the cooperation between stuff providers and constructors should be more smoothly and effectively in later work completion.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
LL: No,thanks a lot.
