Interview with KAI CHANG at Wednesday 29th of March 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KC: We put the original material of nature, with a new modern way to re-dismantling and then combined, and give a strong human spirit and meaning FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KC: We integrate the overall residential space, and try to bring the forest environment materials and atmosphere into the interior space, the use of simple geometric cutting method, the material consolidation, and the introduction of human thinking and family members of the memory FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KC: We will be inside the space of several modeling furniture such as restaurant cabinets, lamps and other design so that they become a series of design products, and promote THEE for the design of the ideal and thinking FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KC: Specific design cabinet about 20 days design work days, the design program as a whole completed about 2 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KC: The design part is designed by the THEE team. The original design concept revolves around the desire to design a cohesive / visual theme design. The theme design must focus on the focus and thought of family life and the dream of each family member Memories and expectations FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KC: Because the client commissioned, we are for the family members of the family often travel abroad and so on factors, and hope to create a family representative of the living space type FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KC: Mix the original rough and trendy fashion elements, and to fine fine to show the space in different faces FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KC: Import special outdoor building materials, such as thick rough logs, special cutting of the processing FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? KC: 1. Stone wall is too heavy and high load bearing problem, the need for special metal structure to support the heavy stone 2. villa in the lower middle and lower space, the lower space because of building structural problems, resulting in lack of light, so part of the space design needs more careful consideration of the introduction of light function 3. The overall style of the need to show up with the outdoor forest space echo each other, so the choice of materials need to import more and outdoor environment associated with the building materials FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KC: Because this kind of work into the oriental culture of thinking includes the concept of retired secluded mountains, we are curious to such a living demand as a starting point and with the external forest environment under the combination of the design produced by the same oriental cultural flavor, in the European design trends will be what kind of collision generated FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? KC: Learn to observe and imitate the nature, and learn from the natural material how clever but in line with the trend of human nature in the residential space inside We try to avoid using too much cumbersome not suitable for building materials in space inside
