Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Khashayar Mansourizadeh (KM) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Khashayar Mansourizadeh by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Kerman here.

Interview with Khashayar Mansourizadeh at Tuesday 2nd of May 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
KM: After examining numerous environmental conditions, we decided to design a double-skin structure based on a traditional construction, named Kapar. This double-skin structure creates the opportunity to moderate the temperature of interior spaces despite the harsh and hot weather conditions of the exterior space.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
KM: The principle goal of designing this project was to create an outstanding building with a notable structure which fulfills both society-based and technological-based demands of regional people and tourists.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
KM: We have sent it to the client and we hope that it would be built as soon as possible. Also if not, we will improve and publish it in social medias.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
KM: Approximately it took 5 hard-working months to design this project.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
KM: This was a commission in which we participated and designed it for a client.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
KM: After reading the rules and demands of the commission we decided to create an outstanding project which would become a notable building for decades.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
KM: Actually our team consists of three people and we have done the entire project by ourselves.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
KM: The notable technologies which we have designed such as transformable outer shell and space-frame structure combined with the section-active structure, are the prominent features of our project. Other components such as special form and interior spaces are also outstanding in our design.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
KM: The project’s name is a combination of the city name and the use of the building.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
KM: Sketches, software such as Autocad, 3ds max, v-ray, Grasshopper, Rhinoceros, Photoshop and other tools which we made our physical model with.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
KM: The double-skin shape of the building is the most unique part of our design.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
KM: Of course we consulted with our civil engineer and mechanic friends in the design process of such a complicated and massive project. We are very thankful to our kind friends, Pedram Ghorbanpour, Ali Motie,Salar Jangi and Mahdi Fakhri for their notable helps.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
KM: Actually the most important parts of our project are the technological-based sections.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
KM: We examined a lot of data about environmental conditions of the region and society demands; also we spend a lot of time to design and examine numerous possibilities for appropriate algorithms of the transformable outer shell in Grasshopper software.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
KM: The harsh and hot weather of the region and other problems caused by the inappropriate weather conditions were the most important challenges of the design process.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
KM: In this section I should thank to my teammate, Pooria Darvishi for his suggestion about submitting our work in an international competition.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
KM: Frankly, because we are young and newly-graduated architects, this was our first chance to design such a massive and complicated project; thus, we learnt a lot of things such as time management and other skills during the design process of our project.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
KM: At first, we did not even anticipate that we could pass the preliminary stage, but now, we have won the prize and it is unbelievable.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
