Interview with Catherine MOSBACH at Thursday 4th of May 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? CM: Lithosphere design as a work in progress FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? CM: -Emphasing the power of landscape morphing in a new heart of development -That people feel in another world when they cross the park FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? CM: To realize the drawing as near as possible FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? CM: 3 years and always evolving under construction FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? CM: -As we are working in a tropical humid climate with regular earth work and hard climatic condition so we need to deel with such kind of condition in a gentle way -We follow our inspiration FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? CM: It is unique and stay unique : no duplicata FS: What made you design this particular type of work? CM: It was an international competition we won FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? CM: We work together with philippe rahm more involved in furniture and architecture FS: Who is the target customer for his design? CM: everyone FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? CM: No ressembling FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? CM: It means that it always change as connected to life condition as our body is always in movement FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? CM: Trace and pencil. Then all devices to develop a large project and especially xxx with transsollar FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? CM: Accepting change as a design process FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? CM: Transsolar, atelier LD, Bollinger & G FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? CM: Comfort simulation and capitation of real condition FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? CM: -The climatic variations of the site through computational fluid dynamics simulation (CFD) -The models were developed by German firm Transsolar who used ANSYS Fluent software FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? CM: Langages and construction tradition in Asiatic country with other way to manage decision with political heritage FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? CM: Philippe Rahm ask me to organize a team as representative and team head As Sanaa ask me for Louvre Lens As Jourda ask me to do Botanical Garden FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? CM: Work on a very large scale, invest huge infrastructure like bridges and tunnel, work with another cultural tradition and discover Taiwan heritage
