Interview with Zodiac Lighting Limited at Friday 7th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? JC: To redesigning lighting lamps and develop it into a change to serve the evolving creative industries. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? JC: Inspired Hong Kong people the works by local artists and designers are well implied and innovative. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? JC: showcase HK's high quality designs and build success in the international market; and as an ICON of Hong Kong creative industries that shines in the region; FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? JC: We have announced to designers this project in May, and they spend 2 months to work on it. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? JC: At the initial stage, this project is to celebrate the milestone of Zodiac 28th Anniversary. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? JC: All the re-designed table lamps sponsored by VIBIA are unique and innovative, we will donate the lamps to charity organization for fundraising. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? JC: As VIBIA table lamps - Mayfair has refined silhouette and incorporating a highly refined LED lights, all designers are welcome to demonstrate their ideas with their free will. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? JC: Product featuring exhibition already quite common in design aspect, but it rarely works on lighting products. Thus we think its a good try to feature on lighting fixture. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? JC: Different generations of locally born and raised artists/groups FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? JC: 28 designers customize the art pieces based on their stories, therefore all of them are unique and impressive. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? JC: "Connect, Create, Collaborate" means inviting the public to look and feel like a designer through different stories told by these lamps and the designer behind. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? JC: No fixed theme and material to follow in this campaign FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? JC: All the master pieces are well implied and innovative FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? JC: Zodiac Lighting invites 28 designers/ artists to redesign and modify 28 table lamps. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? JC: VIBIA original table lamp - Mayfair is in a highly contemporary manner featuring innovative materials, refined silhouette and incorporating a highly refined LED Light. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? JC: As we thrilled to share with the public of how far our local designers can reach, we shortlisted several venues and products of this campaign. At last, we selected "Comix Home Base" in Hong Kong & Vibia - Mayfair as the featuring product. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? JC: As table lamp - Mayfair original looks gorgeous, designers need to re-design/ modify to delight audience sense. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? JC: The event is successful in Hong Kong, Zodiac would like to elevate the appreciation of the value created by design and innovation FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? JC: As most of the designers quite busy, sufficient time at the design stage would be better. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? JC: Be inspired to explore a different lighting world.
