Interview with 5+2 STUDIO at Monday 24th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? YY: The space is mainly made of bolted wood and oak white material, large area of wood application is the main expression of space, the main adjustment of the material to support the matching. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? YY: The design unfold concept of spatial planning by quarter arc body of building. Extend building outline intention, and obtain define to interior spatial function, present from sales function demand to life experience culture, and make clear functional planning by conclusion to material application. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? YY: The overall color control to achieve the desired effect, material relations more coherent. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? YY: About 60 days FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? YY: Because this is commissioned design project, so the intellectual property rights owned by the client. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? YY: This is commissioned design project FS: What made you design this particular type of work? YY: The design unfold concept of spatial planning by quarter arc body of building. Extend building outline intention, and obtain define to interior spatial function, present from sales function demand to life experience culture, and make clear functional planning by conclusion to material application. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? YY: By the design team to complete. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? YY: A strong sense of fashion people FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? YY: Book and scenery run through the space, display of furnishings has well connection with scene, such as blend into poem stream & book forest, and then the experience level to life feelings in visual is more abundant. While selection of more heavy furniture in volume suit the enjoyable experience environment better. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? YY: The name is the customer's decision FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? YY: AutoCAD、3DMax、Sketchup、Ai、PS FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? YY: The design unfold concept of spatial planning by quarter arc body of building. Extend building outline intention, and obtain define to interior spatial function. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? YY: We are in the form of a team to complete the project, including soft outfit, engineering, and equipment. The design skill is not a lot of new technology, More is through the art of life concept of gimmick perfect pass out. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? YY: The design skills is not a lot of new technology, but also through the concept of art to convey life. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? YY: Considerations of building environment. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? YY: Mainly is the complexity of the building itself and limitations. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? YY: In terms of design itself, need for art performance insights,and also hope that through this platform to show our design concept, let more people know us. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? YY: Combination of learning and good communication, and makes design implementation easier. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? YY: Overall tidy of arc in the space is the part which is most difficult to master in construction site, while compact project time schedule and incomplete construction environment are even difficulty to elevate the constructing space. Technical study of wood finish also is conducted with many times of sample verification, time requirement and technology difference are problem need to be solved, and all these help us to accumulate valuable experience.
