Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Massimo Facchinetti (MF) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Massimo Facchinetti by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Z2 and Z3 here.

Interview with Massimo Facchinetti at Wednesday 26th of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MF: Making the product recognizable and easy to connect to the manufacturer. This is evident in the rear shield/extractor.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MF: For a DPI, the greatest attention has gone to the aspects of personal safety: impact impact study, internal polystyrene and outer shell in technical materials and shock resistant.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MF: A continuous development to improve the technical and security aspects. Not forgetting the development of new graphics to keep the product constantly up to date.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MF: The helmet project began a year ago, starting from scratch, as if it were a white sheet.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MF: The project comes from the HMR Helmets request for a new line of helmets.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MF: It is produced by HMR Helmets, helmet design holder.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MF: The demand to develop a new line of helmets for the customer company.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MF: The development was handled in teams between the design studio and the customer's internal office premises.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MF: All those who want to ski safely without losing sight of fashion and trend.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MF: The study of the shapes, characterized by the shield that becomes the rear extractor, of the refined internal ventilation system.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MF: It derives from the model number linked to the initial letter of the line name.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MF: 3D modeling on Mac, real-time graphic design with specific programs, rapid prototyping and everything else needed to get an ad-hoc project.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MF: The study of shapes that optimize helmet helper features, to have an aesthetically pleasing but extremely functional product.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MF: My design studio and the interior staff of HMR Helmets, the helmet manufacturer, have been involved.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MF: The study of the internal airing that allows the natural diffusion of the hygienic fragrance.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MF: It's an original project, with the physical modeling with the resin of the shapes that you wanted to get.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MF: Combine beauty and functionality consistently.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MF: I strongly believed that, as it was realized, it was a cutting-edge product, both as a concept and as a realization.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MF: The refinement of expressive typologies and the use of ski helmets has allowed us to considerably extend the prospects for the future of these products.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
MF: I would like to emphasize the importance of design coherent with the maximum goals that you want to achieve in a similar project: design, security, technology.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
