Interview with Oksal Yesilok at Friday 17th of August 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? OY: The search for an original, different and stylish design idea brought me to this point. I think cards and card games are both fun and mystical. At the same time, I always had the curiosity to play table games. Game pieces and pawns, detailed card illustrations have always been interesting for me. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? OY: I was thinking of applying my illustrations on a design object. And my main focus was on preparing products bearing their own design interpretation. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? OY: I think it will be an inspiration for my next work. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? OY: About six months. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? OY: I currently sell the product through my own website. And I think it reaches a lot of design-loving masses. But if there is another option, I will of course evaluate it. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? OY: I can say that it is for everyone who loves design products. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? OY: symbol language of the card. Because they are different from other playing cards. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? OY: I found the term "Whimsical" in the book of visual illustration dictionary. It was used for strange illustrations. I decided to use it because I work mainly on illustrations and I think it will suit the characters. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? OY: Symbols, because they have never used such a symbol suit before. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? OY: I examined the historical and contemporary examples of playing cards. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? OY: I received an invitation. I thought this would be positive for the future of design and I made an applied.
