Interview with BenjiLock Llc at Wednesday 26th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? BL: The main principle and inspiration behind BenjiLock is to redefine the personal security experience using hybrid technology with the consumer in mind. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? BL: My main focus was to design and create a solution for the issues that people and myself included were having as they went to the gym on a daily basis. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? BL: The future plans are bright. BenjiLock is showing the world that disruption and innovation, if done right, can create a positive impact to society. The main goal for the rest of the year is to keep innovating in the field, polish the current product portfolio and bring the award-winning design of BenjiLock to market. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? BL: It took me four years from sketching the idea to actually making the concept a reality. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? BL: I was working as a director of marketing at a local real estate company. Sadly, they needed me only for a transitional period, and I was laid off in the month of December. The same day I got laid off, during the nighttime hours, my daughter was born. I was extremely happy, but being laid off also made me feel depressed. I felt lost and became overweight, so I decided to start going to the gym to help myself get back on track. That's when the inspiration of BenjiLock was born. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? BL: My main intention is to produce the work myself, but I am extremely overwhelmed in a positive way of other companies interested in the production rights of my invention, so the future does look bright. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? BL: The need to create a solution to a personal issue I encounter going to the gym. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? BL: I don't have a design or designer that really influenced me, however, I do have a great passion for popular brands, consumer products, emerging technologies, entrepreneurs, traveling and the wonders of life, so personally for me, I tend to get inspired and influenced by all of this. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? BL: The target customer is largely constructed by Millennials, Generation X and Baby Boomers, which shows that these markets have an amazing passion for an active life. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? BL: The patented hybrid technology and the simplicity of it's functionality. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? BL: I wanted to come with a catchy and simple name to remember, so while bouncing ideas, the name Benji came up, so I just decided to call it BenjiLock.
