Interview with Rania Elkalla at Friday 7th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RE: In this project, the goal is to experiment with unconventional materials that are based on pre-consumer waste and previously reused items reclaimed from the industry in a unique way. In this context, Design has the issue to transform undesirable wastes from a passive role to active interpretations through maximizing the efficiency of a product in terms of energy and use of natural resources. It is intended to create an experience with unusual resources that appear to be quite different in properties, behavior, and composition. Through this project different material experiments are carried out to create products using waste from the food industry such as eggshells, the outer shells of nuts and cacao shells.
