Interview with Wilson Hsu at Wednesday 26th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? WH: The black and white outsole design of this collection bears the legendary Ichimatsu Moyo pattern which historically was an elite fashion symbol in the golden age of Japanese history. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? WH: Provide the best medium between people's feet and the earth and let people can really experience the different terrains through every single dots. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? WH: Let more people know this design and feel the difference. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? WH: Half year. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? WH: Horizon started with the imagination of the future scene, where all the products can do adjustment automatically to fit what the user need and encounter with. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? WH: We design for our own brand CCILU, which had already launched this design. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? WH: The thought to make people enjoy this kind of comfort in any occasions no matter it's formal or casual. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? WH: Me and my colleague worked as a team and we share the idea with each other. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? WH: Young talent people who always have courage to accept the challenge, pursue their dream and look for new things. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? WH: We reassemble the out sole with many pieces which make the shoes fit the wearer's feet in different terrains. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? WH: Horizon, as a symbol of what people pursuing, encourage people move on and keep chasing their dreams. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? WH: 2D 3D modeling FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? WH: Each pair of Horizon has a sole that is created with 102 completely independent and highly resilient-rebound ccilucell units. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? WH: Me and the whole design team. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? WH: SKIVE-ON FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? WH: We do the searching regarding which type of upper is classic and popular, and suit this kind of unique outsole. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? WH: The assemble process. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? WH: We want to let more people know about this brand new design.
