Interview with Mood Works - Karina Snuszka & Dorota Kuc at Monday 24th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KS: Nature and animal leitmotif play leading roles in this design. Starting with the choice of rarely used sycamore tree of vivid and unusual pattern for wooden floor, wall covering and door, through neutral colour palette inspired by antelope leather posessed by the home owner and original hunting trophies and custom made accesories like deer antlers mirror frame to finish with, nature sets tone of this house both inside and outside. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KS: The ambition of the designers was to create an elegant and cosy dwelling for an individual, who is strongly connected with nature; a place to „charge” one's emotional batteries and feel inspired for the future adventures, while reflecting on the past expieriences and trophies. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KS: We are looking forward to new clients who are willing to equally excplicitly express their hobby and passions in the interior design. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KS: The whole project took us almost a year to complete. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KS: The design was commissioned by the client. Because of his hunting hobby, which dominates his free time, we knew from the beginning that we would like to incorporate this theme to the design. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KS: Hunter's Retreat is a place where our client can fully relax and feel like at home, surrounded by his favourite trophies and nature related finishing materials. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KS: We tried to use rare materials like sycamore tree, which is applied on both floors and walls. Original hunting trophies make this design stand out from the crowd. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? KS: We collaborated with talented craftsmen, who manufactured wooden sycamore floors and wall coverings and custom-made carved wooden furniture. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KS: We participated in A' Design Awards competition two years in a row and decided to go for a third consecutive win in 2017 as well. Hunter's Retreat is locally embeded but has universal appeal. People from around the world should appreciate its uniqueness.
