Interview with Louie Shum at Monday 12th of September 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? LS: Aesthetic of Italian & Mid-Century modern design with a restrained opulence. The works of Franco Albini, Jean Royere, Jean Prouve are the path of my inspiration. Creating spaces that are a shared experience. The flow of the space is essential cos it's the back bone of a masterpiece. Nailing the details and the quality of craftsmanship is important to our design. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? LS: To create a luxurious 'mix styles' private dinner-party venue is the mission. The most challenging part of this project is how to infuse the ethnic sense of colors and patterns into a rustic industrial style seemingly. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? LS: A collection of custom crafted furniture of my own. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? LS: It takes me a bit longer than usual. Spend a lot of time researching and sourcing artisanal materials. Took me almost a month to root down the concept for this project FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? LS: It's rare for us to come across with an opportunity like this in Hong Kong. It's like a dream comes true!
