Interview with Doyi Park at Wednesday 26th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DP: I am inspired by the Mannerism artist's approach. Mannerism artists studied classic art work and then recreated it their own way. I applied this method to the fashion. To me, the shirt is the most classic and formal fashion item regardless of the gender or age. So, I used it as a main media to show the concept. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DP: I wanted to know more about the garment structure. I explored how to construct the garment in sophisticated way. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? DP: I wanted to show or expose this collection to the public through the exhibition, social media, and so on. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DP: It almost takes 6 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DP: I just got inspired this concept. I like classic. That is why when I knew about the mannerism art, I felt intrigue about it. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DP: It was produced for myself but if someone want to buy or lease the garment, I can sell or lease. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? DP: My attention and interest. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DP: A woman who likes the elegance and sophisticated mood with confidence attitude. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DP: Most of the garments are made from the shirts deconstruction experiment. So it has several hidden shirt details. Also it contains the various aspect of the clothes in one garment. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? DP: Literally I was inspired by the Mannerism art, so I decided to call as the mannerism collection. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DP: I used lots of classic shirts to study the construction. Except for that, I used muslin, pins, adobe program, art supplies and so on. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DP: Sophisticated construction and details. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? DP: I researched what is the mannerism art through the internet, books, article, etc,. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? DP: How to interpret the concept and show it as the fashion. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? DP: I wanted my collection to be checked by the experts of the fashion industry and wanted to get some feedback or reaction. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? DP: I could learn how to produce the collection in general.
