Interview with Nils-R. Schultze at Tuesday 18th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NS: The installation is a landmark, showing the entrance of the science park Berlin-Adlershof. The installation is a symbol for green energy, it shows, how many energy is in the tanks. With the energy the color of the rings is changing. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NS: The focus was to create a LED based light installation with the presence of neon light and the change of the look at every day FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NS: For the second mode different art design will be create. New artist films will be shown at the tanks in the future. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NS: The design must connect the idea of the design with the technical standards FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NS: The design is for singular use at this power plant FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NS: The target customer are the people, who are working in the science park and any visitor of the science park FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? NS: The design use of LED-technology connected with the control of a power plant. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? NS: I working in my projects mostly with light. With this experience I designed a software which can mix the colors of the light of every ring by dmx-protocol FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? NS: For my design I need the work of two software developers. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NS: The ecologic aspect of energy come together with new light technology FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NS: In the design process the simple connection to the data from the power plant was set from the beginning.
