Interview with Apiwat Chitapanya at Sunday 4th of September 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? AC: The inspiration comes from the beauty of shape, a surface including the interaction between living things in nature. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? AC: The main focus is the free movement and free-form furniture which is generated from the small details. Especially, the viewers could feel a sense of movement. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? AC: I will develop further in other furniture to create a collection for the exhibit. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? AC: 5-6 Months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? AC: I designed this particular concept because of I want to create furniture that people become aware of the value of life through imitating the shape of the plume. And I decide to pursuit an inspiration. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? AC: I intend to produce my work by myself. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? AC: I love art and passion in furniture design thus, I would like to create furniture art as my masterpiece. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? AC: Studio Job is my favourite designer that influences my design works. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? AC: The target customer is people who appreciate the difference, unique and passion for art. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? AC: The sets this design apart from other similar concepts is the manner of shapes and details that outstanding and the exquisitely working process by using high- skilled craftsmanship. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? AC: This design was inspired by a feather so, “ Feather” is named after the characteristic of this work FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? AC: For my most unique designs is functional harmonise with the beauty of composition by using free-form shape including details and technical skills in production. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? AC: I work with our specialised skills. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? AC: Laser cut technology is used only table top for the accuracy of shape and scale. For the other parts is used welding process. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? AC: No, it is not. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? AC: The challenge is to innovate the design process and manufacturing techniques in order to respond the concept the most. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? AC: I decided to submit my design to an international design competition by considering that the competition will be credible and accepted from design field. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? AC: I have learned and developed the thought processes in a systematic way. Moreover, I learned a lot from the problems and found out the solutions of the production process during the designing of this work. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? AC: Nothings.
