FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SS: Since I have experienced both cultures; British and Japanese. I enjoy talking about similarities and differences as it affects our everyday lives. Tea culture is something very common between us and I got interested pursuing this experience into design.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SS: Since I started this project, I researched many different type of teapots, and just came across without handle could be useful to reduce space and create minimal shape. The form and function were main focus to develop the design.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SS: Ideally I would like to distribute this design in the world. I am happy to develop this and provide more variations.
FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
SS: I did used drawing softwares both 2D and 3D, also wooden machinery. min body part was made by a ceramicist.
FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
SS: I had ceramicists' help to make this. she was very supportive to develop my shape and meet to my requests.
FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
SS: As the teapot has no handle, to work out the size was important. Physical test with many mugs were made to find out comfortable size to hold.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
SS: I believed that participating in this competition would be not only great opportunity to promote my designs and myself, but also it would be a lot of help to develop even more by having feedbacks.
