Interview with Kotryna Naraskeviciute at Saturday 23rd of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KN: My inspiration is artist and its career therefore I wanted to create an editorial which would help artists to built their career. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KN: I have noticed that usually career guides are created for all professions but they are all different and we can't apply the same advises for different professions. This problem was driving me forward in achieving the goal of creating a Career Calendar for Artists. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KN: I would like to develop the concept further and to reach my target audience with this editorial (digital or printed versions). FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KN: About 3-4 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KN: I saw the problem and I wanted to solve it by myself. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KN: Yes, it is produced in Vilnius Academy of Arts and used by artists. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? KN: Artists career issues. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KN: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? KN: Artists (especially young ones, that are just starting the process of their career). FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? KN: Format, usability, layout, material, idea. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? KN: The name was dictated by the problems that I wanted to solve. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? KN: Adobe programs + screen printing workshop. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KN: Idea and layout. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? KN: I was working in screen-printing workshop where have received help from screen-printing specialists. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? KN: It helps to fulfill the idea. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? KN: I was analyzing artists career from different aspects. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? KN: The main challenges were to make this calendar informative, attractive and at the same time useful for artists. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? KN: I wanted to receive the feedback about my design from design professional, upgrade the value of my design work and also get the attention for me, as a designer. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? KN: I have got an opportunity to analyze artists career deeply and to find out new, critically important things. At the same time I was able to connect all my past design experience into one and to create this award-winning Career Calendar for Artists. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? KN: I am very happy and proud of receiving this prestigious award which works as a motivation for my future career in design field.
