Interview with Tony Cheng at Friday 22nd of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? TC: East-West style is main principle. We want to build up a high-class and luxury mansion. Feel remain in a five star hotel when you enter the mansion. Make this an extremely luxurious holiday home for ten occupants. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? TC: The main living area allows the whole family to back and relax. Since this home to three generations of a family, everyone have different culture, so we need to adopt East-West style in living area. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? TC: We want to popularize that mingle east-west culture. Let the world and east-west style occur chemical reaction. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? TC: We take one year to design this project. We need to spend time discuss our concept with customer. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? TC: Our design is match with customer lifestyle. Listen to customer demand to begin space planning. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? TC: Hong Kong is a special place that combine Chinese and Western cultures. Therefore Hong Kong designer possess East-West style design sight. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? TC: The main design concept originated by Tony Cheng. Our designer team are support the detail construction. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? TC: The goal behind the design of the house was to ensure the needs of each and every family member were met, and as such there are six public halls where they can entertain each other. The basement and ground levels tend to be bedrooms, the grandparents also have their own personal area on the ground floor so they don’t have to tackle the many stairs, while on the first and second floors, each brother occupies an entire storey with his family. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? TC: Materials and special proportion of design that to be conspicuous in this project. Therefore appear different compared other similar design. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? TC: Since the main principle is East-West style, the name is Chinese - Western of Luxury. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? TC: We use 3DsMax render 3D drawing to show the idea for customer. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? TC: Materials and special proportion of design that to be conspicuous in this project. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? TC: Our designer team are support the detail construction. We use 3DsMax render 3D drawing to show the idea for customer. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? TC: We use 3DsMax render 3D drawing to show the idea for customer. Our customer has foreseen the effect when the construction has not started. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? TC: We need to discuss with customer to confirm that the design is suitable for them. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? TC: In living area there are featuring double height ceilings. It is difficult to change that the characteristic become to focus. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? TC: In this design showing Hong Kong designer perform on East-West style perfectly. We have confidence on this. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? TC: In infinite possible find unlimited probable.
