Interview with Varvara Filatova at Tuesday 19th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
VF: The concept inspired interiors 70s of the 20th century, but with a modern twist. The main force by the inflammatory for designers became the novel "Solaris", which is the pinnacle of creativity Stanislaw Lem, and his most famous film adaptation, performed by Andrei Tarkovsky.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
VF: I want to make a hotel with non-standard interiors and unusual approach to the organization of space. But at the same time it was important to maintain a sense of comfort for guests.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
VF: We started working on the project back in 2008. Then there was a long break. The main work on the project was carried out from 2011 to 2014.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
VF: Our client a lot of traveling around the world. He wanted to make the hotel does not like all the others, in which he stayed. This was the starting point for creating concepts.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
VF: Visitors to the city of Moscow.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
VF: This project is absolutely not typical for Moscow. Most of the hotels in the center of the city is made in historical style. Standard is the only design hotel in its class.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
VF: The feeling of space that occurs when you get into the room. Certainly it is a merit of the author of design finishes and furniture, specially designed for the hotel. Also of note is the unique paintings of artist Stas Tratsevskiy.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
VF: A comparative analysis of the existing projects in the Russian market, and we have studied the world experience in creating similar projects.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
VF: The hardest thing was to combine modern design and European standards with outdated Russian hotel standards.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
VF: First of all because I am happy with the result. The hotel is at the design stage was enrolled in the organization A MEMBER OF DESIGN HOTELS. The first in Russia.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
VF: Design of a big hotel in the center of Moscow is certainly a great professional experience. For me personally, it was also a great experience as the main architector of the project. It was also very interesting to create an unusual for the Russian concept of this design hotel.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
