Interview with Raynon Chiu at Thursday 17th of September 2015 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RC: The construction is like the fish, and neighbours Macau colsely, cause it is located in a public used place, we don't want to destroy the enviroment. The earth-covered construction could look like part of the nature, FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? RC: Take advantage of nature resource and architecture as the decoration with less non-renewable resources FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? RC: The construction will be gifted for the government as the art center for adolescence FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? RC: 15 days FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? RC: The concept was generated by the paper and the outline of fish. Actually the local government push us a lot, because it's a public used place, we develop our concept on the enviroment-friendly base more as well less consumption. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? RC: It is produced for Guangdong HAKKA FS: What made you design this particular type of work? RC: The local government provide a special request, they want the construction to be seen fabulous from Macau, but be invisible in Zhuhai, so we just consider the earth-covered construction. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? RC: N/A FS: Who is the target customer for his design? RC: The person who is interest in their properties FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? RC: The concept and the earth-covered construction FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? RC: The surroundings follows the lotus theme, because Zhuhai neighbors Macau, and lotus is the symble of Macau. Construction looks like a fish shape, and it means a Chinese old sayings the fish can swim among the lotus, which is lucky message FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? RC: Sketch CAD FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? RC: The sustainablity FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? RC: N/A FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? RC: We don't use too much complicated technology and take advantage of the Architecture itself as the decoration. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? RC: N/A FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? RC: Mainly the pressure from the government
