Interview with Lin Yu Wei at Wednesday 20th of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? YL: We'd like to utilize space in an irregular pentagon. Our decision was to adapt our designs to the given shape and, through careful arrangement of all elements, allow the rough stone to shine. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? YL: To ensure good lighting for every room in the ground floor and basement,we restructured the available space, rearranging the existing skylight, light-absorbing shades and windows to let adequate light into every room. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? YL: We keep discussing with our client the concept and detail round 3 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? YL: Taking our cue from origami, we folded the iron parts extending from the entrance hall into 3 large frames that serve as support for designer lighting fixtures, creating a postmodern ambience. Throughout the day, as the light shifts, our see-through designs produce interesting patterns of light playing on the walls, further underlining the overall artistic effect. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? YL: No FS: What made you design this particular type of work? YL: According to client's need and our experience. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? YL: No FS: Who is the target customer for his design? YL: Our client FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? YL: Light, humanity and art are essential elements of daily life. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? YL: The steeply arched curve of the stairs underside inspired us to let it merge smoothly with the surrounding shapes and lines. Light installations help to create an interesting interplay of light and shadow, generating a kaleidoscope of splendid geometric shapes.
