Interview with Nada Khamis Mohammed Al-Sulaiti at Sunday 1st of March 2015 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NA: Japanese Cherry Blossom FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NA: Its a statement masterpiece, We wanted to produce fine jewellery piece that is close to the natural Cherry Clossom FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NA: We would like to exhibit the piece and create a jewellery line that is inspired by it, yet wearable for daily use FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? NA: It took a month of design and R&D FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NA: It was a commissioned piece FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NA: Hairaat Fine Jewellery intend to reproduce similar smaller pieces off this design FS: What made you design this particular type of work? NA: It was a commissioned piece for our clientele FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? NA: No FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NA: High Net Individuals who want a unique one of piece ( Bespoke made to measure ) FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? NA: The colour combination and the use of semi precious stones to create a High Jewellery Piece FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? NA: The nickname of the lady who commissioned the piece is Sakura which means Cherry Blossom in Japanese. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? NA: It was sketched by hand on paper FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? NA: Semi precious stones were cut specially for the rotating centre flowers FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? NA: With my team at the workshop FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NA: It was handmade, technology wasn't a part of it FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? NA: No FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NA: To make a flexible piece that is light and can cascade naturally on the women's neck area. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? NA: Sakura is masterpiece and it deserve to be recognized FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? NA: The way we handled the piece movement to be fixable gave me a different approach towards future projects FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? NA: No
