Interview with Raynon Chiu at Thursday 21st of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RC: "Collaboration of inner and outer” leaves the design glamorous and attractive FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? RC: to make a spiritual establishment which reprerents traditional culture to the best by using the most fundamental elements like straight lines FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? RC: 20days FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? RC: I think it's full of Chinese element. This was design commissoned. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? RC: It's used by another company. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? RC: N/A FS: Who is the target customer for his design? RC: People who want to buy houses there. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? RC: No extravagant decoration,but concise and delicate. Zen demonstrate the spirit of the whole buliding. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? RC: Sketch CAD FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? RC: Step into the sales&exhibition center by passing through a fixed waterscape entering the gate on the left of the frontal of the architecture.Settlement like this can better conform to grace and restraint and modesty of Siheyuan. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? RC: N/A FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? RC: Nothing special FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? RC: N/A FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? RC: The limited budget. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? RC: Because i want to get feedback from others and want to improve myself. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? RC: It was convinced that the expression and transmission of tradition and culture not only depends on symbolized signs,but also portrayal and insight of inner quality experienced by people. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? RC: N/A
