FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
GD: Show the beauty of our tropical fauna. The main idea was to create a colorful visual history of the Scarlet Ibis in different scenarios related to the beautiful habitat where these birds remain brightening the landscape on the beaches of Puerto La Cruz.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
GD: The design aims to highlight the beauty of the bird, focusing on its graceful movements and vibrant color with the intention of provide a fresh and unique wildlife image of my region.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
GD: I still have no future plans for this design, but I would like that this art reaches many viewers, especially to all animal lovers and nature protectors.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
GD: I can develop a concept like this in two weeks, but this design took about two months due to prior commitments.
FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
GD: Both. At first, this design was commissioned by a travel agency in Puerto La Cruz where these birds are very common. I fell in love with the end result that served as inspiration to develop the rest of this set.
FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
GD: A design was performed especially for a travel agency, the rest of the images are a personal production derived from the generator concept.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
GD: My passion for nature and art, my admiration for the natural beauty of my country, my love and respect for life, my call for protection of animal life.
FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
GD: I think I have a style and a personal way to shape my perceptions almost always in a fun and colorful way; in a elegant and serene manner, but I can say my work has some influence of the French painter Henri Rousseau one of the leading representatives of Naive Art.
FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
GD: For all type of audiences including children and nature lovers.
FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
GD: The design itself is unique because it comes from my imagination, this is my creation brought to reality with my techniques, colors and style.
FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
GD: It is the name of the bird which is the focal design point.
FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
GD: This design was made entirely in Adobe Illustrator
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
GD: I think the harmony between the all elements of design. Vegetation, color and flowers are the particular strengths that adorn this project.
FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
GD: No, the work was conceived and created entirely by me
FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
GD: It is of utmost importance. Currently applications such as Adobe Illustrator improve every day providing an optimal design development, on the other hand, the Mac technology not only puts the tools at my disposal, the operating system makes the workspace be comfortable and easy to use.
FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
GD: Absolutely yes! The research and observation of these birds in their habitat was very important to know characteristics and behavior using so common tools such as notes, photographs and sketches.
FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
GD: Bring to the design the result of research; try to create movement in the flight and achieve the saturated color of this bird.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
GD: I like challenges and I believe in my work
FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
GD: I learned new techniques and knowledge. I think every project is a unique experience for the designer who truly enjoys their work, each project is a challenge, an opportunity to grow, to overcome difficulties, to develop skills and definitely to carry you to want to be better and better.
