Interview with Luka Krizek at Saturday 26th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
LK: Principle is Vodafone logo which graphically appears on the floor and it is transitioned into to 3D corian object dividing space into functional zones. It makes people to experience together with new technological products as well the remarkable experience of space.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
LK: Create a strong and unique corporate space with a new store concept, which will be the flagship to determine the future look of the mobile stores of the Telco company in Czech Republic.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
LK: Use this reference to try to catch another interesting project for another inernational corporation.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
LK: It was a collaboration with professionals from Vodafone and we looked for concept for about 3 months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
LK: We were looking for a strong corporate identity to be inline with my previous design work for Vodafone.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
LK: All copyrights are owned by Vodafone.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
LK: I worked 7 years for Vodafone Czech Republic and in this time I created visual brand identity so in this case I only continued in the trend.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
LK: No, not in this case.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
LK: It is designed for Vodafone customers.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
LK: In this case the name just refers to client.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
LK: Imagination, modeling skills and work with materials.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
LK: In the long term I'm trying to experiment in the field of architecture and design, but with the intention to create despite the diversity of projects a common style denominator of IO Studio.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
LK: We could not finish this work without a final 3D model created in the computer. And of course it would not work without specialists in corian DCH Sincolor company.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
LK: The subject is manufactured using thermoforming technology. It was therefore necessary to first prepare forms. They are made of MDF using 3D CNC machines.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
LK: I used data from my previous projects.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
LK: Perhaps the biggest challenge was the relatively large size of corian object. I had to find affective and economical solution and object was eventually made without inner steel structure.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
LK: I think that architecture can speak with a universal language and therefore can be understood abroad.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
LK: Every project we propose, we try to do as unique. Therefore, most of applied practice is new for us and we always discover something.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
LK: No, thanks for asking.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
