Interview with Marie Laurent at Tuesday 15th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
ML: open space, minimalist and full of charactere

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
ML: to bring the outside inside

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
ML: a first of many

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
ML: 3 weeks

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
ML: i believe an open space and minimalist design was the only approach for such a volume and location. it just enhance every perspectives

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
ML: no

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
ML: I would say that penthouse design became my specialty. I love working with these volumes.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
ML: no

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
ML: the client and his friends

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
ML: I believe its unique location is part of the design. the layout has been designed for it. it is a very unique place

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
ML: 59th floor

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
ML: my 3 pencils and my note book as a start

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
ML: we have only 3 doors. all full height on pivoting system. they become part of the design detail.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
ML: civile engineers

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
ML: engineering for the minimalist aspect

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
ML: no

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
ML: the time line. we have to realised this project in a very short time.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
ML: I believe this project is outstanding and deserve international exposure.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
ML: every project is different. you learn more at every stage.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
ML: no
