Interview with Yi-Sin Huang at Monday 14th of April 2014 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? YH: To make deaf people to enjoy the fun of riding. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? YH: Silence is an E-Bike designed for deaf people. Its radar and warning lights become the 2nd sensory organ for them. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? YH: To make world widely deaf people to experience riding on Silence. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? YH: 6 month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? YH: To help deaf people to have a safety riding and also to provide a brand new riding experience for every riders. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? YH: I will intent to produce mine work myself. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? YH: Bicycle is the most easy use transportation. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? YH: Dieter Rams, Marc Newson FS: Who is the target customer for his design? YH: Every one. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? YH: Humane considerations. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? YH: Dangerous is always hidden and appear every where, so there must have one project to help to shield on people. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? YH: Technology and engineering books. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? YH: The condition of riding. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? YH: My family member only. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? YH: Guiding people to aware where are the dangerous for these deaf people. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? YH: No. I was influenced by the deaf people around me. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? YH: The cooling mode of warning light system can be done by more efficient way in order to achieve the purpose of the low cost. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? YH: To make the manhood better all over the world. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? YH: Observing, thinking, and learning. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? YH: Design for our life.
