Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer David Irwin (DI) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of David Irwin by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design M Lamp here.

Interview with David Irwin at Friday 11th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
DI: to create a new, innovative product, but one which took reference from our industrial heritage, specifically the industrial heritage of where I currently live and work in the UK - Newcastle Upon Tyne.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
DI: To create a contemporary piece with minimal form which still had emotional resonance and reference to the past.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
DI: What is important for consumers, where does lighting fall short given our daily constraints and how we live today? This was the core question which we set out answer when designing the M lamp. The project was a response to the brief set by Juniper

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
DI: Produced and distributed by Juniper

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
