Interview with Giuliano Antonio Lo Re at Wednesday 18th of September 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
GL: The main principle behind this design is to took disease and make them visually appealing and intriguing. Disease is something bad, but it could be seen in a different way.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
GL: With this piece we want to capture the attention of the viewer and therefore our main focus was to design the visual in a very appealing way.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
GL: It will be great to see these images as real advertising for a real client. This is our dream!

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
GL: Basically we developed this project in one month.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
GL: Like all our works we pursuit our ispiration. We spend all our day searching beautiful images and projects from all the world and observing all that is around is.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
GL: We plan to sell our product. We know that it could be a very impact adv and therefore it will be great to have a real client.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
GL: Basically we are influenced from all that is around us. We spend a lot of time searching good projects and good images on Internet and we try to pursuit our inspiration and to develop a project with our style.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
GL: The main targets are everypeople that look at our piece. "Help the research" is the motto behind our piece, and every persone can do that donating some money.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
GL: This design is not similar to others design that treat about the same concept. We think that a few designed disease in the way we made, in an appealing way.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
GL: The title "Disease: Life is Golden" was born during the 3d modeling of our images. Life is golden, therefore we must do everything to preserve it.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
GL: We used some 3d software like Maxon Cinema 4d for modeling the objects and Vray for the lightning of the scene.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
GL: We think that the most unique aspect of our design is the texture that we used for the objects in our images. We tried to make it in the best way possible.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
GL: I and Matteo work together in all our projects and no one help us. If we need some skills to develop a particular images we learn this skills. Internet is full of tutorials!

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
GL: Without all the technology we used, we would not have been able to achieve our piece! Maybe a sculptor could do our 3d model without technology but maybe only with clay and marble, but would hardly be able to reproduce the texture that we used.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
GL: We made a lot of research to achieve more information about disease and to understand which were perfect to be used in our work.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
GL: Probably the dark cloth which rests from above to represents the part of the body that has been damaged was the most hard challenge during the relization of our concept.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
GL: We decided to submit this design because we trust in it. We do a lot of project but this is probably the project that we love the most. If we win the competition we're sure that it could have an international recognition and maybe we could sell the piece to a real client.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
GL: Before this project we were not able to do all. But this was not a problem and we learned all the skills that we needed to pursuit our inspiration. For example we were not able to use Vray for texturing and lightning and at the end we realized some beautiful textures and lights!

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
