Interview with Murat Gedik at Monday 14th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MG: The idea actually comes from the sunflower. I always have an interest in them. They follow the sun during the day rotating their faces to their precious. This project was born from that idea. The design and the rotating specification of the project integrates with nature from that aspect. The structure resting on the bearing bases of arch or semi arch character has a reduced impact on the soil,so allows the soil to enjoy rain and breathe in. Inspired by nature, my design for Field of Flower should have been nature friendly.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MG: Inspired by nature, it should have been integrated with nature, which means nature friendly and also on the other hand it should represent the future.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MG: After building it, to live in with my wife.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MG: The design process took approximately 3 months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MG: One day, an inspiration came by and I suddenly started sketching.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MG: Field of Flower is not built, yet. I want to sell the project to an investor to be built.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MG: Just the a silhouette blinked in my mind. I can simply call it Inspiration

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MG: Actually not

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MG: The customers who have esthetic concerns and want to live in a unique design like that.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MG: The structure resting on the bearing bases of arch or semi arch character has a reduced impact on the soil,so allows the soil to enjoy rain and breathe in.A block composed of four villa units has the chance to enjoy the view panoramically with the mechanism capable of rotating 360 degrees a day.The project gets part of its energy supply from wind roses. Each villa unit might get involved in organic agriculture on its own area in the amidst of various flowers, trees encircled with artificial or real ponds. It is integrated with nature and thereby respectful to nature.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MG: Where the design idea was born, namely flower.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MG: First of all my inspiration and my skills, then my hands and a caligraphy pen, after all a 3D modelling software

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MG: The structure resting on the bearing bases of arch or semi arch character has a reduced impact on the soil,so allows the soil to enjoy rain and breathe in.A block composed of four villa units has the chance to enjoy the view panoramically with the mechanism capable of rotating 360 degrees a day.The project gets part of its energy supply from wind roses. Each villa unit might get involved in organic agriculture on its own area in the amidst of various flowers, trees encircled with artificial or real ponds.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MG: I worked with a civil engineer for the static prospect.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MG: If a customer wants, the mechanism is capable of rotating 360 degrees a day. This specification requires a cutting-edge technology.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MG: In the beginning, the design was a little bit different. When we discussed the static and current cost of the building, we realized that we have to make some little changes unless affecting the philosophy of the design. As a result, the semi arch structure was decided.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MG: I have believed that my design is unique and universal. In addition, I have received possitives feedbacks from the society, my friends and collagues. So I decided that my design deserves an international award.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MG: Following your inspiration leads you to success.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
