Interview with Vasil Velchev at Sunday 10th of March 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? VV: The original idea was inspired by the shape of a tear, but during the modeling the shape was changed. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? VV: A chair with smooth shape, nice color, to bring pleasure for all senses. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? VV: I will be very happy to see this project alive, hope that there will be a manufacturer who will be interested in producing it. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? VV: About 2 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? VV: No, it was not commissioned. I had it in my head and this design competition was a very good reason to force myself to bring the idea to live :-) FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? VV: I have plan to sell or lease the production rights to a reliable manufacturer. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? VV: Ideas comes to my mind randomly, so there is no special reason. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? VV: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? VV: This chair is suitable for both public places (like clubs, cafeterias ...) and private customers. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? VV: I think that the only thing is the shape. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? VV: The name 'Desire' was inspired by the shape and the color, by the passion of using this product. Also i wanted this chair to have a woman's name. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? VV: If you are talking about software - ProEngneer and KeyShot. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? VV: Every design is unique, in my case probably the shape. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? VV: No, i was working alone. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? VV: The only role of technology in this particular design is the ability to be manufactured FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? VV: It was just an inspiration, not influenced by analysis and research FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? VV: Balance between design and ergonomy, which i still have doubts that is 100% achieved FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? VV: I had a lot of hesitations and doubts if my work is good enough to be shown in a worldwide competition like this but sometimes you should have to believe in your self and try FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? VV: Every step forward is a good experience FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? VV: No, thanks for the interview
