Sedia Stellare (o Del Piccolo Principe) Sit Comfortably and Contemplate by Stefania Vola

Home > Winners > Design #27422 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Stefania Vola (SV) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Stefania Vola by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Sedia Stellare (o del Piccolo Principe) here.

Interview with Stefania Vola at Saturday 9th of March 2013

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SV: This chair is created by the combination of a formal and emotional research. The formal research has been devoted to combine harmoniously soft signs and warm materials in an original design which however unconsciously evokes reassuring archetypal forms. I wanted it to be a relaxing chair, that favored the user to get in harmony with himself and with the surrounding environment. For this reason it seemed to me natural to put a star on top of the chair, almost a point between the line of the human chakras and the universe.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SV: When I drew the first sketches, this chair seemed to me both naive and charming ... and reminded me of the character of The Little Prince, which I envisioned as ideal user. That's why I called it 'Sedia Stellare (o del Piccolo Principe)’. I realized that its form could invite to a particular state of mind and spirit, being a cross between a cradle and a small precious throne for poetic thinkers, observers of the stars that, like the Little Prince, venture into sidereal trips... So I developed its design, in the complex and on the details, in order it could wrap of grace and majesty who sits: regality blended with the simplicity that is the privileged key to access charm and richness of the countless cognitive universes.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SV: The prototype of this chair was realized as part of the collection 'interioritratti' (www.interioritratti.com), the brand I created to start my projects artistically inspired. Unlike other items in the collection, entrusted to specific companies, I want to produce personally the 'Sedia Stellare', in limited edition. I am fortunate to be in contact with a well-known Hollywood managers: last July - when I was in New York to present the prototype of the lamp dedicated to Arturo Brachetti - I had the opportunity to personally illustrate to this manager the project of my collection and since then he's following the objects evolution. When recently I sent him photos of the ‘Sedia Stellare’ he said 'Send it to me!'. The chair now is in his showroom in Los Angeles and I'm sure it could not be in better hands.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
SV: This chair is aimed at an audience of collectors and is suitable for special places, private and public. I recommend it for contemplation and for moments of wine tasting (I have a real passion for the world of wine and I believe that wine tasting is a very sophisticated art). So I think it could fit to private settings but also to cellars, wine bars and reading places. In general I think that the 'Sedia Stellare' can meet the taste of the dreamers.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
SV: This chair is realized by a chain of fine craftsmen of Brianza, who take care of every detail with great experience. The prototype is made of cherry wood, natural leather and brushed steel, but wanting the 'Sedia Stellare' may have, upon request, custom finishes. I think the idea which gave birth to this object, deserve the highest quality, from every point of view.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
