Interview with H. A. Foroutan at Sunday 17th of February 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? HA: The main idea is to produce a symbolic object that shares peace and will act against war as a symbol. The ring design is inspired from the form of battle bullets covered with blood (an alert to be aware of anti humanity acts of war.) FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? HA: My purpose was to produce a reminder that may be used in the way of peace. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? HA: My plan is to nationalize the idea, that every single object can be used in a positive way. And besides it, I wish to produce my design in a large quantity to produce peace. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? HA: It took about 3-4 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? HA: The design was a self work, and designed for the purposes I told above. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? HA: I plan to co-work with a company, or sell it, to produce it in a large quantity. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? HA: The violence and anti humanity acts in these days world made me to think, and produce this design. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? HA: Yes, the designs of Friedrich Becker helped me a lot to find my style in jewelry design. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? HA: Not as the materials used in the concept, the final product is wishing to be made of cheap materials, to give the chance to every one to own this symbol. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? HA: I think that the symbolic usage of this design may apart it from other designs and products. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? HA: As the name of design (Red Ring) shows, I think the name reminds us the red color of blood, and it also turns to an alarm in our mind. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? HA: Well, I used simple sketching tools for the first idea, and then made it 3D and rendered by computer. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? HA: I think being used as a reminder of peace, is the most unique aspect of my design. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? HA: Three of my friends helped me to concentrate on the project and finalize this design, whom I thank them with honor. (Keyvan Zarei, Mahmoud Motiee, Shahab Sadeghi) FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? HA: I think technology can improve the process of production and publication in this design. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? HA: Just a little knowledge of color and form effects in human mind, but cannot be told a particular research. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? HA: Designing the final form was a hard work that took most of the process time. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? HA: As told before, my goal was reminding peace in world by an object, and as my branch in design is jewelry design, though I decided to submit my design in A' Design Awards to have a chance to produce it. And also having a chance to produce my future designs was a certain goal. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? HA: I learned some technical aspects in jewelry design, and also a huge amount of experience in the knowledge of form and color in design. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? HA: I think others may say my mind is so surreal, but I wish this surreal mind can effect the world positively.
