Interview with Do Thanh Xuan at Sunday 10th of March 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DX: The bamboo lattice work in vietnam is everywhere in the life at varying scales and a wide range of uses. The bamboo is used structurally, to create a form. The textured shapes are interesting and beautiful and it impresses me about how such a simple, inexpensive product can make such unique, beautiful and durable products. This inspired to bring it into my fashion designs. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DX: High quality product with nice design and artistic FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? DX: I plan to manufacture in different colors to sell in my shop. Also available to export or wholesale FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DX: 3 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DX: this was the pursuit of an inspiration FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DX: I plan to produce this product and sell it retail and wholesale if the opportunity arises FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? DX: The weaving of Bamboo that is so commonly used here in many products and household items. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DX: Women from 25 - 40 years old, like traveling, fashion, art work FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DX: The quality, attention to detail, wearability, comfort... FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DX: Soft ware and hand sewing techniques. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? DX: Technology didn't play much of a role here except to illustrate the design. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? DX: I wanted to try to generate some international publicity for my company and designs. A friend recommended that I should try the competition - and so I did.
