Interview with Verico Grip at Monday 11th of March 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? JT: Innovation is always the key element in Verico design. We are creating something which is different than others. In Verico Penpal, there are three breakthrough steps. 1. It is the smallest USB 3.0 Ever, 2. Product are dust and water proof. 3. Combine with different function. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? JT: To be innovated. To let Memory storage product not just for storage only. It could be use in other application as well. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? JT: 1. To expand the brand name into more regions. 2. To continue our goal for creating innovation product. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? JT: We have spent an year on developing this project. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? JT: The actual concept for Penpal was from our customer, they would like something which is different than others. if you look at our product category, you will find out many of our design were very close to the market's need. this was due to we listen to the customer advice and put all the ideas into the product. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? JT: We have designed and produced by our own. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? JT: I think mostly were from the customers advice, since they are more close to the market and understand what the market really needs. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? JT: not reall, we do have ideas by our own and we just put all the ideas and make the product. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? JT: Everyone FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? JT: 1. I dont think there is any similar product on the market so far. 2. It is the breakthrough product which nobody have ever made. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? JT: this is like the ink pen and ink. if you are using the pen, of course you will need the sharpener. that is why we call it Pen pal. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? JT: it is hard to specified, since we have use many design tools to work on this project. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? JT: You will not find any similar products on the market except Verico. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? JT: we do work with design team, RD team, and moulding team for creating this proudct. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? JT: Each part of this design is the role of technology. since without any of it, we couldnt make this concept come true. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? JT: Yes, the design was influenced by our customer. Because they were more close to the market and knows what is market need. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? JT: 1. The technology to make the product water and dust proof 2. The technology to make the size of USB flash to become smallest ever. 3. The design ability to put two different object into one product. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? JT: It is unique and no similar product on the market if we compare in the same category for memory storage. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? JT: It is the great experience to be a coordinator. thank to all the crews. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? JT: well, I have to thanks to all of people who involved in this project. without their hard work, this project could never be true. thank again to all the crews.
