Interview with Jaeryong Lee at Sunday 22nd of April 2012

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JL: To hide something … It is not natural.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JL: We can see that existing pencil cutters are designed to hide sawdust by making the container with semi-transparent acryl or hiding it. The natural is beautiful. Naturalness … We see beauty in the natural.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JL: I'm not certain but I am going to work for design

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JL: In a 10 minute? but I feel difficult when I go through deeper

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
JL: I do design, that I want.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
JL: I make it myself, I want to sell my product

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
JL: Since a blade is hided in the cork, one can cut pencil using the cork.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
JL: I would like to tell that was inspired by design something, but I could design within myself from my experience.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
JL: All of people who want to put on one's desk, or a shelf, Not to hide a sharpener when cut a pencil over.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
JL: Pursuit value of pencil sharpener, I would have liked to design it When I am a buyer who want to open one's purse for my ACUOTR

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
JL: Name follows product, I think. ACUTOR means a cutter in Latin language.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
JL: Rhinoceros and Keyshot but It is a real product.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JL: All of them, especially, a flask which contain sawdust, and using cork.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
JL: I worked with jungjoon Hwang, We are a team name of Temporetarrae

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
JL: Cut a pencil

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
JL: All most of Stuff and nature.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
JL: How to cut clear and put down sawdust well.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JL: Firstly, I like your prize and I want it. secondarily, I think, my ACUTOR is appropriate for A'design award.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
JL: Significance of appreciation of the beautiful and Function for good design.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
JL: I really want to see you, and go to Italy, I feel sorry, I can not go there but I am going to there surely though another way.
